TO THE MAXI

Be bold and take your space to the MAXI. See how you can use one of our newest wallpapers to the Juju collection, Maxi, to create out of this world looks at home or at the office.

There is nothing better than seeing our newest High Dive Collection installed out in the real world, especially when it happens to be one of our favorites patterns!

Here at Juju Papers, we've been blown away by our favorite designers using Maxi to create one-of-a-kind spaces that really have that 'wow' factor.

Elsie Larson and Loretta Lou transformed the new Apple and Oak HQ using Maxi in gold on cream as a statement wall. The thick, painterly rings and lines have maximum visual impact while the negative space avoids overcrowding in a small room.

One of our favorite things about Maxi is its ability to pair perfectly with other textures and patterns. The expressive gesture of the metallic gold compliments every detail, from the soft tassel chandelier to the geometry in the pink, patterned floor of the Apple and Oak office. Elsie said:

I have always wanted to use this wallpaper- it's one of my favorite designs and I envisioned in in a small space- which was perfect for Allison's office. I loved working with Allison because she wanted to mix patterns and use a lot of color. The wallpaper is so stunning and makes a bold statement when you walk through the door.

Maxi has also been getting some notices in the press. We were honored to be finalists in this years NYC X Design for our Maxi pattern and the rest of our High Dive Series.

Did you know we offer custom colorways in all of our designs? This custom Maxi in gunmetal on blush is a daring but inviting welcome to the reception area at Jennifer Bett Communications, a New York PR firm. Their new NYC office, as recently highlighted by Lonny, was designed by our friends Xandro Aventajado and Rachel Kane at Current Interiors

Photographed by Andrea Calo for Jennifer Bett Communications

Drawing the eye across the open space of this creative, stylish office, the dynamic shapes maximize the effect of a single accent wall. From Xandro:

We hung the Maxi in the reception area. We feel that with its bold pattern and welcoming colorway, it sets the tone for the entire project. Viewers are greeted with immediate intrigue and personality.

Over here at Juju Papers, we are all about mixing big, daring patterns! This showroom combined Maxi in champagne on cream and Le Freak in gunmetal on cream to create a match made in wallpaper heaven.

Available in three colorways; the classic gold on cream, the drama of gold on charcoal, or the light and effervescent champagne on cream. Is your space just calling for some Maxi? Would you like some help getting started with a custom colorway? Drop us a line at sales@jujupapers.com and we will walk you through every step of the way. You can also order samples of all our wallpapers here to give your project a jump start.

FRUIT SALAD IS HERE! 🍑🍍🍊🍒🍉A Chromatic New Cement Tile Series by Avery Thatcher of Juju Papers

Handmade Cement Tiles in Electrifying Color

Avery Thatcher, founder / creative director of Portland, Oregon-based wallcoverings studio Juju Papers, adds a new category to her offerings: cement tile. The first series, Fruit Salad, is handmade ceramic encaustic tile, in kaleidoscopic color, calling for a serendipitous installation method.

Thatcher, who had experience setting tile prior to making her name as a wallpaper designer, wanted to bring the complexity and ornamentation of a handmade mosaic into a room without requiring a complicated installation. Tile installers accustomed to natural stone will recognize her installation technique, which entails selecting and spontaneously rotating each tile’s placement in turn.
FRUIT SALAD IN WHITE-RED and WHITE-BLUE RANDOMLY MIXED AND ROTATED 1:1

“Tile contours traditionally tend to be symmetrical. I wanted to flip the script and create a design that felt more experimental,” Thatcher notes. “The impromptu installation results in a truly random, scattered, colorful pattern; the warmth of a Persian rug combined with the pigment richness and vibrancy of a Morris Lewis painting.”

FRUIT SALAD IN BLACK-RED and BLACK-BLUE RANDOMLY MIXED AND ROTATED 1:1

Design professionals will have a first look during ICFF, at Juju Papers’ booth # 122.  Intended for both indoor and outdoor residential, hospitality, workplace and public spaces, Fruit Salad will be available beginning mid-May.
FRUIT SALAD IN WHITE-RED, WHITE-BLUE,
BLACK-RED and BLACK-BLUE RANDOMLY MIXED AND ROTATED 1:1

Made by hand, one at a time in Mexico, the 8”-diameter hexagonally-shaped cement tiles sport a billowy, five-color wave motif.  Two colorways -- one with white center, one with black – include such sumptuous hues as lilac, persimmon, ocre, blush and military blue.  Colors may be customized. A low-energy, no-fire process creates a deliciously washy matte finish.

Durable and Safe

Tile ingredients - marble dust, Portland cement, sand, mineral pigments, concrete - combined with the 1,700 PSI mechanical hydraulic presses used in manufacturing, ensure these tiles are durable enough for residential and commercial applications and both indoor and outdoor use. The tiles are a hefty ⅝” high, and weigh in at 3 lbs a piece. Adding to the durability, the wear (top) layer is a full ⅛” thick, which makes them appropriate for both floors and walls. The coefficient of friction is also well over the .42 standard - averaging in at .65 - making it safe for commercial traffic and wet applications.

JUJU PREMIERES HIGH DIVE SERIES AT ICFF, BOOTH 122

WILD THING GOCR_Enviro

Juju Papers, Avery Thatcher’s Portland, Oregon-based wallcoverings studio, is set to launch an unorthodox series of hand-printed papers this spring at ICFF. Titled High Dive, the new designs are all about the sweeping gesture, generous scale and lavish precious-metal colorways. “High Dive is bold, risky,” Thatcher suggests. From an exotic cannabis landscape to an over-the-top op art maze, these patterns express surprise, sensuality and daring. Thatcher is known for glamming up familiar motifs by portraying them in lush metallic inks; new color Champagne, an effervescent, semi transparent silver-gold, joins the Juju Papers palette.

Thatcher notes, “The oversized scale common to the four patterns introduces a bit of drama and surprise. Wallpaper is a great opportunity to bring some risk into a space - a counterbalance to architectural structure and the clean lines of most furniture. I wanted this series to exude the unpredictability of dripping paint strokes or a verdant plant. The contrast of a wild, washy gesture to a measured, controlled line."

Le Freak: A calligraphic maze of monumental scale, reminiscent of Robert Motherwell or Jean Arp. Two two-tone metallic colorways: Champagne on Cream, Gunmetal on Cream.

Maxi: A dichotomy of prominent negative space balanced against thick, painterly ring and line shapes. Three two-tone metallic colorways: Gold on Cream, Champagne on Cream, Gold on Charcoal.

Wild Thing: Lush botanical at first glance; edgy cannabis forest at second glance. Simplified to the most basic form, but then subverted and wrought in gloss. Four two-tone metallic colorways: Gold on Cream, Diamonds and Pearls on Cream, Gold on Charcoal, Gunmetal on Navy.
